Canada Day at Canada Place 2014
27th Annual Canada Day at Canada Place, presented by Port Metro Vancouver
Canada Day at Canada Place, presented by Port Metro Vancouver, is the largest Canada Day celebration outside the nation’s capital. Join us on July 1 for 13 hours of FREE family fun. From 10:00am – 6:00pm guests will enjoy a wide variety of live performances, breathtaking exhibits and interactive displays at the Waterfront Party.
The foundation of Italian Day is the celebration of Italian culture and the contributions made to this city by Italian immigrants and subsequent generations of Italian-Canadians. With a rich history of over 50 years, Commercial Drive’s Italian heritage is reignited and The Drive is transformed into a vibrant street festival. Organized by the Italian Day Festival Society in conjunction with key sponsor, The Commercial Drive Business Society and collaborating partner, The Italian Cultural Centre, the goal is to share the spirit and all that is Italian with Vancouver’s multi-cultural community, showcasing food to performing arts, fashion, exhibits and activities. The event also engages merchants, vendors, businesses and sponsors, extending the cultural element into a community and city benefit. Since its return in 2010, Italian Day has become one of Vancouver’s most celebrated cultural festivals with over 300,000 attendees in 2013, more than double the previous year’s attendance.
It’s that time of the year again where Vancouver gets to get their geek on!
April 18-20th will once again bring pop-culture goodness to fill the halls of the beautiful Vancouver Convention Centre with some of your favourite comic book writers and artists, tv and film celebrities, tons of retailers selling your favourite fanboy (or girl) merchandise, and of course…all the incredible cosplay costumes everywhere!
This year the event has been extended 1 day by starting on Friday instead of a Saturday like the 2 previous years. It’s a long weekend, so why not right??? And if you want to make the most of your days there, check out the link below to the official schedule. Here you can plan out your day, for example: to be at which Q&A to hear your favourite actors talk about their career and other projects, it also shows a nice layout map of the convention floor. Personally, I’m looking forward to seeing Karl Urban from the locally shot futuristic TV cop series ALMOST HUMAN, but of course most fans will know him for Bones McCoy on the new STAR TREK. Decisions, decisions, decisions, check out the guest list and all the other attractions at the Fan Expo website listed below.
Karl Urban (left) as Detective John Kennex
Tom Felton from Harry Potter
Bruce Campbell from Evil Dead series
Lauren Cohan in The Walking Dead
There is LOTS to see at these kinds of pop-culture conventions (or the ‘Con if you want to sound cool). And if you’ve never attended such an event and you are planning to attend something like the uber big San Diego ComicCon in the future, then the local Fan Expo is a perfect place to get you warmed up and get a feeling of what a Pop/Comic Convention is like. Have fun and seeya there True Believers!!!

For hundreds of years, dumplings has been an important dish to many Asian cultures. LunarFest welcomes back this popular culinary celebration. Enjoy the simple, yet significant, dish to the Asian culture.
